GET OFF OUR LAWN: How Can You Help?

1. SEND FRIENDLY EMAILS to Memphis Zoo CEO Jim Dean and Mayor Jim Strickland and the Memphis City Council. Ask them to do the right thing for our parkland: Commit to solutions that do not harm Overton Park, and ban parking on the Greensward forever.

2. ORDER THE YARD SIGN to show your support and inform your neighbors. Our volunteers will deliver for free!

3. USE OUR GREENSWARD as it's meant to be used. Relax on a blanket, read a book, fly a kite, throw a frisbee, kick a soccer ball, etc., and show the Zoo that they are WRONG to harm this free public gathering space.

What's the Problem?

In 2018, the Greensward was used for Memphis Zoo parking 65 times a year, according to Zoo officials.
Extra zoo parking is needed on the same days people most want to enjoy the Greensward: on weekends and when the weather is nice.
Between 20,000 and 35,000 vehicles park on the Greensward each year, according to Zoo officials in 2018.
The Memphis Zoo already controls 75 acres of Overton Park, including 17 acres of old-growth forest that they plan to develop as a new exhibit.
Zoo officials have repeatedly refused to work with our community on long-term solutions that would benefit our park AND our zoo. Instead, they have demanded exclusive control of more of our parkland.
